Invitation to Participate: Industry-University Center for Intelligent IoT

CU Boulder wants you to be aware of an opportunity to participate in the planning stage for a new industry-focused Pervasive Personalized Intelligence Center. The National Science Foundation has a longstanding “IUCRC” program – Industry-University Cooperative Research Centers – in which consortia of companies come together with one or more universities to prioritize and conduct research on a particular topic. The CU Boulder Computer Science Department, with Professors Evan Chang and Shiv Mishra taking the lead, is partnering with Oregon State University to set up such a center on “Pervasive Personalized Intelligence” – i.e., thinking about artificial intelligence and machine learning, or AI/ML, at the IoT level. 

We invite you to learn more about the PPI Center through the website or via the following activities: 

· Join the planning workshop Oct 11-12 in Portland, OR (info in attached flyer) to participate directly in the planning activities, to build relationships with faculty and students from both universities who are experts in AI/ML for IOT, and to give feedback to the NSF on the projects/problems that your company would like to see the center tackle. 

· Can’t make it to Portland? We will hold a debrief meeting in Boulder, to share outcomes from the planning meeting and to elicit feedback that will help shape the direction of the center. The Boulder debrief meeting will be held in early November – let us know if you’re interested in attending and we will make sure to include you on the invitation list. 

· In advance of the Portland planning meeting, you are welcome to vote on the projects you are most interested in via this Google Doc (pg 5-10 on this planning agenda). Your input will inform which projects the center tackles in its first year. 

· Ultimately, the center will need members. If you would like to explore participation in the center, please reach out and I can connect you to center leadership who will be able to answer your questions. Membership allows companies to shape the projects which the center tackles, to interact with the students who will be key to the center’s research, and to have early access to project results.
