THEMES

Building the Cybersecurity Workforce Through Apprenticeships
We have it heard a hundred times, we have a cybersecurity workforce shortage. The longer we let the problem perpetuate, the harder it will be to fix. This panel examines one way to help fix the skills and confidence gap around cybersecurity – apprenticeships. By leveraging this model, we can get workers into jobs quickly and with the requisite skills needed both from a classroom perspective and an experience one.

Now Is the Time for Federal Privacy Legislation
With the recent implementation of the GDPR, and new privacy laws in California and Brazil, the buzz around a comprehensive federal privacy law in the U.S. has reached a fever pitch. The House, Senate, and Administration are all currently looking at the issue, and interested parties on all sides have voiced their support for a federal law. But what exactly should this new law look like? That’s where opinions start to diverge. This panel will gather speakers from industry, government and the public interest space to discuss why the U.S. needs to pass a federal privacy law now. We will look at where there is consensus on how the U.S. should tackle federal privacy legislation, and perhaps more importantly, where there is disagreement.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution: Moving from Automated to Autonomous
Only a few years ago, the artificial intelligence (AI) industry was mired in slow growth. There were few players in the game, making it feel as if artificial intelligence (AI) was contained to a few players- with IBM’s Watson being one of the few success stories.  AI has quickly evolved from the obscure to the mainstream. Our economic and national security ecosystems are touched by AI virtually every day.  According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), artificial intelligence is ushering in the “Fourth Industrial Revolution” -- the first major workplace transformation to focus on streamlining intellectual labor in addition to manual labor.  WEF estimates in its “The Future of Jobs Report 2018,” that while 75 million jobs may be displaced, 133 million jobs may emerge as humans and machines work together in the future. But with progress come difficult questions.  How will AI affect our economic prosperity and national security? How do we expand a more diverse pipeline? How are we retooling our educational curriculum? How are we breaking down existing silos? How do we recruit and retrain for a 21st century workforce?
